Building the Y-Combinator of Venture Capital

There are over 2,000 active VC firms in the U.S. alone, and the VC market continues to grow. Winter Mead, co-founder of Oper8r, is building a financial firm that sits at the center of the emerging VC universe by empowering the next generation of great emerging micro-VCs.

Oper8r runs a "YCombinator for emerging VCs" which is an institutional fund management training program for emerging venture capital firms. The thesis of Oper8r is that emerging VCs play an increasingly valuable role in the venture capital ecosystem, not only because they have historically outperformed other financial asset classes, but also because these emerging VCs are paving the way as specialists to enable the next wave of innovation.

About Winter Mead

Winter ('08) has spent his career in technology, moving to Silicon Valley after writing his dissertation on how the film industry was disrupted by digitization. After working as an operator at two early-stage digital media technology companies as part of the continuation of his dissertation research, he transitioned to become an institutional private equity investor and limited partner. After investing over $900 million as an institutional investor, he has taken his skillset and institutional network to focus on enabling the next generation of great investors. His passion is building a coalition of people and institutions who care about emerging VC to drive forward the next wave of innovation.
