Boards: Trends, Challenges, and Opportunities is a four-part series that addresses what it takes to position yourself as a valuable Board Advisor.
Working with investors is a challenging aspect of the role boards of directors play in their oversight of entrepreneurial businesses and in ensuring compliance with regulatory norms. Different types of investors, including private equity and venture capital firms, have their specific reasons for backing promising start-ups. Yet agendas may vary and it is important for boards, which can include investor representatives, to have clear behavioral guidelines and plans in place to drive the business forward in different growth stages.

About Ivan Comerma
An MBA and Certified European Financial Analyst (CEFA), Ivan is the co-founder of Systema Capital with his partner and friend Xavi Alsina. Passionate for solving business problems and value creation/capture led Ivan to grow the Systema Capital ecosystem and expand his board advisory work to a broader set of companies.
For the past 25 years, Ivan has been a trader, portfolio manager, entrepreneur, startup CEO, board adviser, and seed investor. He has developed expertise in investment banking, supporting legal firms with litigation funding execution, and providing corporate finance strategy, fund raising, and mid-market sell-side M&A primarily in Europe and Silicon Valley.
As an active early-stage investor, advisor, and mentor in Pre-Seed and Seed companies across the world, Ivan seeks to build a portfolio of 50 companies, particularly focusing on impact-led companies with strong emphasis on solving any of UN 17 SDGs within this decade.
In addition to his MBA from IESE Business School (GEMBA 17) and Certified European Financial Analyst (CEFA) certification in 1998, he also completed the Investment Management Workshop at Harvard Business School in 2009.
