Using AI to engage customers and drive sales

How many times have you looked for the 'right' fashion garment to only come up empty. And this is in spite of the fact that retailers invest billions of dollar in digital advertising across the globe. Helping customers find what they're looking for in fashion is a very large opportunity.

Indrek Vainu '05, is the founder of CartSkill - which employs artificial intelligence to help customers find what they're looking for and help retailers "make the sale". They have designed a product discovery engine that uses deep learning allowing customers to find the right fashion item (e.g. a handbag). Here's how it works: When clicking on a handbag inside a regular display ad, the user is recommended three new handbags, all visually similar to the one clicked. Click again and new recommendations pop up allowing the user to buy a handbag through the ad. While the user is shown only 4 handbags at a time, the recommendations are intelligently chosen from a selection of 1,200 bags. Allowing people to shop inside display ads increases engagement rates for advertisers and publishers.

For their launch CartSkill has partnered with lifestyle bloggers and publishers in Europe and are excited to help people discover products that they love but could not find before.
